I would like to introduce you to Marc St-Jean.Marc has been a loyal client of ours for two years now.Marc is a biking enthusiast and has recently taken on a very big challenge. His challenge was to raise funds for Leucan and to take a biking trek in beautiful Vietnam. What you don’t know is that Marc fell and broke some ribs two months before leaving for his trip. But because of Marc’s dedication to his commitment, he did everything possible to recover quickly and make his trip, which he did.As you can see on the pictures, Marc had the task at hand and did the best he could under the circumstances of his condition. What a trooper, way to go Marc. Before Marc’s trip, we did a spinning marathon to help Marc raise the money he needed to be able to participate on this trip.We raised quite a bit of money, considering there were few participants, but we had a blast nonetheless.Thank you again to everyone who donated in the name of Leucan. We were proud to be part of Marc’s trip as we made sure we were represented, as you can see by the t-shirt Marc is wearing…We were all there in spirit with him… Thank you Marc for these wonderful pictures and memories of your trip toVietnam.

Vitamin D is a Key Player in Your Overall Health
In a paper published in the August issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, access to adequate amounts of vitamin D is also believed to be beneficial towards reducing the risk of cancer according to Anthony Norman, an international expert on vitamin D. Norman also lists 36 organ tissues in the body whose cells respond biologically to vitamin D, including bone marrow, breast, colon, intestine, kidney, lung, prostate, retina, skin, stomach and uterine tissues.
According to Norman, deficiency of vitamin D can impact all 36 organs. Already, vitamin D deficiency is associated with muscle strength decrease, high risk for falls, and increased risk for colorectal, prostate and breast and other major cancers.
An unrelated study also suggests that low vitamin D is associated with Parkinson’s disease. The majority (55 percent) of Parkinson's disease patients in the study had insufficient levels of vitamin D.
Meanwhile, the AmericanAcademy of Pedediatrics has doubled its recommendation for a daily dose of vitamin D in children, in the hopes of preventing rickets and promoting other health benefits.
The new guidelines now call for children to receive 400 international units (IU) of vitamin D per day, beginning in the first few days of life.

Organic food contains more nutrients
According to a recent study by the Globe and Mail and CTV News of the nutrient quality of fruit and vegetables, compared to 50 years ago, today’s regular fruit and vegetables contain dramatically less vitamins and minerals. The average potato has lost 100% of its vitamin A, 57% of its vitamin C and iron, 28% of its calcium, 50% of its riboflavin, and 18% of its thiamine. Out of seven key nutrients studied, only niacin levels increased. Similar results applied to 24 other fruits and vegetables. For broccoli, all seven nutrients fell, including a 63% decrease in calcium and a 34% decrease in iron. No wonder we are overeating to compensate for the lack of nutrients our bodies so desperately crave. In April 2001, however, a US study examined 41 comparisons of the nutrient levels in organic and regular foods. In every case, the organic crops had higher nutrient levels - 27% more vitamin C, 29% more iron, 14% more phosphorus. At the June 2001 meeting of the American Chemical Society, a chemistry professor reported that organic oranges contained up to 30% more vitamin C than regular oranges, even though they are half the size. (Conventional orange trees are fed nitrogen fertilizer, causing the fruit to absorb more water, which makes them bigger.) In a French study, a cancer specialist studying the nutrient qualities of food grown in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France (by the way, a great wine region as well) showed that for the twelve foods where his study is complete, the organic foods showed increased quantities of vitamins A, C, E, and the B group, increased elements such as zinc, increased minerals such as calcium, and increased fibre.
